In the early 1970s, I was fortunate to find my interets in yoga, astrology and metaphysics combined in the teaching of Goswami Kriyananda at the Temple of Kriya Yoga.   He became my guru and my light on the path.  The essence of everything that I teach is from this remarkable source.  In 1980, I took the  Professional Astrology Course at the Temple and began seeing clients.  I was a professional astrologer for twenty-five years but I am not seeing clients at the present time.  I continue to write on astrological topics, in particular karma and astrology.

Ten Tips on How to Learn Astrology Fast

In the best serendipity (or karmic) style, in the mid-1970's, a friend from the Temple who was a Tarot reader was looking for a place to teach a Tarot  class.   I volunteered the dining room of my Chicago apartment.  So I got to take the class.  At that time, I really knew nothing about the Tarot and was not thinking of myself as a psychic.  But the Tarot worked for me.  I'm a Capricorn (a very practical, down-to-earth, zodaical sign) and I don't 'believe' in Tarot or Astrology.  They both happen to be tools that work really well.

I practiced Tarot on friends, began to do readings a psychic fairs and became a professional Tarot reader.  I'm not seeing clients at the present time.

Goswami Kriyananda teaches that in order to get the best understanding from divination, start with astrology  (or by getting your horoscope read by a professional astrologer) and then get two more confirming readings, for example from the Tarot, Numerology, I Ching, Palmistry etc.  Over the years, I've taken classes and learned about many of these types of techniques.  In addition, I learned that the general study of symbology is very helpful.  And, journaling your dreams each morning gives greater awareness of your own personal symbols.

Suffering is not good for the soul.  For the yogi, the goal is union with the Divine (or enlightenment, samadhi, nirvana, or insert your favorite spiritual phrase here).  In order to meditate deeply, a healthly body is very helpful because it will not distract you from entering more deeply into meditation.

My own physical vehicle seems to have some health issue karma.  So I've  had the opportunity  over the years to learn a lot about finding good alternative practitioners and doing my own "inner work for self-healing."

Goswami Kriyananda  encourages his disciples to eat organic (and primarily vegetarian) and drink pure water.  Hatha yoga, the physical  movement most people think of as 'yoga'' is important  to maintain flexibility and balance the chakras.  I believe that any form of movement and/or inner practice that first gets the chi moving and then gets the chakras balanced will bring greater health and vitality.  So it could be Tai Chi, Chi Gong, etc.

Along with yoga oriented practices, I also incorporate EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and Quantum Touch  as part of my self-healing work.  Affirmation and imagery are also core components.

Kriyanandaji teaches that your everyday life is your spiritual life.   It's all one life.  Yoga and meditation are tools for balanced, spiritual living and the attainment of enlightenment.  Meditation is absolutely essential.  I do morning sitting meditation but my regular everyday life is where I do most of my spiritual practice.  Watching people or situations push my emotional buttons.  Watching the cycles of new moon to full moon.  Watching events repeat like the multiple times per day I'm tempted to eat something on my 'do not eat' list. Or the rising of frustration to 'Dilbert-esque' things at work.  Trying to find that moment during those situations where I can breathe, relax, let go, affirm, see things differently or think a new thought.
