~*~*~* Gratitude I want to wish everyone in the US a very Happy Thanksgiving! I know many of us will be doing grocery shopping this week, and perhaps getting stuck in a long line at a crowded store. Here's a quick meditative exercise to do while waiting to get to the cashier: I call it 'global'
or 'expanding' gratitude (this exercise is adapted from Goswami Kriyananda's
description of the gratitude tradition in Japanese culture). Think
about the things in your shopping cart, becoming grateful that these products
are available to you. Mentally thank all the people who made it possible
for you to purchase these products. Take a loaf of bread, for example.
The farmers who planted and harvested the wheat, those who milled the wheat,
those who transported the wheat to the bakery, those who mixed, baked and
packaged the bread, those who transported the bread to the store, those
who stocked the shelf at the store, etc., etc., etc. (and God/Goddess/Great
It doesn't have to be Thanksgiving week to do this gratefulness meditation. But if you do it each time you're queued up at any store, it will transform your 'standing in line' experience. One more suggestion: The Gratitude Journal. Have a special little notebook (I like those pretty hard-bound blank books). Each night, before you go to sleep, write five things you are grateful for. It doesn't have to be the same thing each time. It can be 'big' things like your family or a roof over your head. It can be little things like finding a great book at the library or a phone call from a friend. If you're ever feeling down or blue, read through your gratitude journal -- it will put your head in an entirely different place. I am grateful for
you, dear readers, and for the easy connections we can have through the
internet. I am grateful for my beloved guru and his presence in Chicago
this past week. I am grateful for this lifetime, in which I have
an awareness of the spiritual path -- and the work on

In particular, chant artist Deva Premal has a very nice download of "Sri Ram, Jai Ram." Just go to the Amazon home page and the 'search' menu at the left top will drop down to allow you to select 'free downloads.' Another group that has some nice chant downloads on Amazon is Rasa.
