APRIL 12, 2002 - NEW MOON  - 22 ARIES 42 - 2:21 PM CDT

Independence, activation, and initiative are the keywords for the New Moon in Aries.  It helps if you know the difference between 'aggressive' and 'assertive.'  If you're prepared, projects can move ahead quickly.

APRIL 26, 2002 - FULL MOON - 6 SCORPIO 41 - 9:59 PM CDT

The Taurus/Scorpio polarity rules resources - financial resources especially, i.e. your money and other people's money.  Because of the T-square with Neptune, it is not a good time to lend out possessions or money unless you think of it as a gift, because they're not likely to return to you.

Further, because of the square to Neptune from the Sun and Moon, a mental 'blind spot' is created.  Don't make decisions a few days on either side of the Full Moon unless you're absolutely convinced you have all the data.

MAY 3, 2002 - MARS Conjunct SATURN - 13 Gemini
MAY 8, 2002 - MARS Opposed PLUTO - 17 Gemini/Sagittarius

Mars trips off the Saturn-Pluto opposition which is exact on May 25th. I wrote about this in previous newsletters: http://www.marciasacks.com/newsletter/newsletter-july-01.html
http://www.marciasacks.com/newsletter/newsletter-oct-01.html
Think back to the weeks of August 5 and November 2, 2001 and see if these were stressful times for you and how you handled them.  (One of the best ways to learn and understand astrology is to keep a journal, even if it's just a few notes jotted down.  Astrological aspects go in cycles and it can be very helpful to look back to see what type of events and emotions occurred.  The trick is, before you get to the next cycle of that aspect, decide in advance how best to handle it -- then, visualize yourself doing just that successfully and harmoniously.)

In the future:

5-13-02   -  Neptune Retrograde - 10 Aquarius
5-15-02  -  Mercury Retrograde - 9 Gemini
5-25-02  -  Saturn opposed Pluto - 16 Gemini/16 Sagittarius
5-26-02  -  Lunar Eclipse - 5 Sagittarius

ASTROLOGY RESOURCES

In case you want to calculate Miss Cleo's horoscope, you can find her birth certificate on the Court TV site: http://www.courttv.com/news/feature/cleo/birth.html
You might also want to check her birth location.  Was it Jamaica? Hmmmmmmm.

I'm continually puzzled as to why people call psychic hotlines for $4 per minute when excellent and professional astrologers, tarot card readers and psychics are available for personal consultations for much less money and far greater quality.

When you're starting a new project, do you check to see if the moon is void-of-course?  If you begin a venture under VOC moon, not much will come of it, according to traditional astrology.  In the Chicago area, you can always check the latest issue of The Monthly Aspectarian for VOC times.  If you don't have an ephemeris or TMA handy, Karen Tye's webpage has a calendar of VOC moon: http://www.karintye.homestead.com/moonvoid.html
Karin's listing is Mountain Time, so be sure to change it to your own time zone.

BEGINNER'S CORNER

A reader sent in these questions:  "Please talk about how to determine the 'ruler' of our chart?  What significance is this ruler?"

Each sign of the zodiac has a planet that is said to be its ruler.  That means the planet has a natural correspondence to that sign, that it feels "at home" in that sign.

The planetary rulers are:
Aries - Mars; Taurus - Venus; Gemini - Mercury; Cancer - Moon; Leo - Sun; Virgo - Mercury; Libra - Venus; Scorpio - Pluto (Mars, co-ruler); Sagittarius - Jupiter; Capricorn - Saturn; Aquarius - Uranus (Saturn, co-ruler); Pisces - Neptune (Jupiter, co-ruler).

Whatever sign is your Rising Sign (the sign on your Ascendant),  the planet that rules that sign is also the Ruler of your chart.  For example, if you have Aries rising, Mars is the ruler of your chart.

When an astrologer interprets a natal horoscope, one of the things she does is check to see if a planet has strength or weakness according to its position in the chart.  A planet which is the ruler of the chart would be considered strengthened or more powerful.  The personality characteristics which the planet describes would be more obvious.

It might be helpful to reflect on your horoscope and it's ruler with keywords like the ones found in the book "Astrology for Yourself" by Douglas Bloch and Demetra George.

For example, if Leo is your rising sign, the sun is the ruler of your chart.  Are you more like the "Skillful Expression:  purposeful, integrated, creative, self-confident" or the "Unskillful Expression: unintegrated, timid, or self-centered, demanding"? (Astrology for Yourself, p. 54)

You can also gain more information about the ruler of your chart by interpreting its sign, house position, and the aspects to it.
