Update Newsletter - February 2001
Lots of new beginnings coming up this month.
New Moons are often good times for new beginnings. The new moon on February 23rd (2:21 a.m. CST) is at 4 Pisces, good for meditation, reflection, intuition, music, art, dance, and that dreamy creativity that's swirling in our consciousness right before spring. This new moon is the focus of a T-square with Mars at 4 Sagittarius opposing Jupiter at 2 Gemini. Mars, Jupiter, Moon and all those mutable signs? A bit manic perhaps. Energy upbeat but reckless, over-optimistic, quick on the trigger, ready to gamble. Take a deep breath and a second look if important decisions are to be made. Mercury goes direct on February 25 at 15 Aquarius. It has just backed up over Uranus and will conjunct Uranus again April 10 -- lots of restless mental energy for the next few weeks. Even though you'll undoubtedly feel projects and activities really moving forward within a few days after Mercury goes direct, use caution with electrical and computer products because of that Uranian energy. Rich, who repairs computer hardware had to work two weekends in a row during this Mercury Rx in Aquarius. One of his clients had an urge to change his computer room around just as Mercury went retrograde and moved equipment by unplugging lines while the equipment was still on and maybe not putting all the wires back the same way. It took over a week for a team of techs to get that one resolved. I had a Mercury retrograde adventure with
my windshield wiper motor burning out. Read the whole story here.
March 8 - Venus Retrograde at 17 Aries - I was taught that when Venus goes retrograde we tend to buy junk which is why I usually tell my clients they should be the ones having the garage sales rather than being the shoppers. Definitely not a good time for major purchases (especially those with a Venusian symbology -- clothes, fashion accessories, beauty products). You just won't get the best value and as with Mercury Retrograde there's a tendency to have to return things. Venus is retrograde through April 20th. March 9 - Full Moon - 19 Virgo - forming a quincunx (150 degree aspect - creating stress and requiring an adjustment) with that Venus station point. The conflict is likely to be between the conservative, hard-working energy of the Full Moon in Virgo versus the wild and impetuous energy of Venus retrograding in Aries. Picture a date between fussy Felix Unger of the Odd Couple and rock superstar Madonna in her underwear as outerwear phase. - at 15 Sagittarius. Think: Spring Cleaning. I believe
that's what Pluto is best for. Getting rid of old stuff whether it's
in the basement of your house or the attic of your mind. The problem
with Pluto is that if you won't give it up voluntarily, Pluto will find
a way to make you let go. Start the letting go/cleaning out process
around the beginning of March. This will help soften the Pluto karma
before the intensity of the station arrives. Another Pluto strategy:
the Serenity Prayer:
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Some keywords for Pluto in Sagittarius are deep exploration whether it's to outer space -- like the NEAR-Shoemaker spacecraft that landed on the asteroid Eros -- -- or deep exploration to your inner and higher consciousness. May your adventure into deep space be harmonious in every way. Look below to the Mars-Pluto conjunction
and the Sabian symbols for more info on the nature of this Pluto station
point.
March 18 - tMars conjunct tPluto at 15 Sagittarius - here's a day of high energy but use caution, Mars is a fight with one person, Pluto a battle with many. You can use this energy skillfully to focus on important projects and get the individuals on a team cooperating. Get your own work energy (Mars) and your deepest ambitions (Pluto) cooperating on a single vision (Sagittarius). Use an affirmation like: "I focus my life energy harmoniously for the highest good." Do you ever look at Sabian Symbols? When I'm looking for clues about the nature of a conjunction, sometimes I'll look up the degree either in Dane Rudhyars's book Astrological Mandala or Lynda Hill's Sabian Symbols as an Oracle. The Mars-Pluto conjunction is at 15 degrees 17 minutes which equals Sagittarius 16: "Sea Gulls Fly Around a Ship in Expectation of Food." Rudhyar says: "The sea gulls here symbolize the more wild and normally untamable energies of the human soul, but they, too, can develop a kind of domesticated dependence upon the by-products of man's adventures within the realm of the unconscious (the sea)." Hill says: "This pictures a situation of dependence and sometimes co-dependence. Don't look to others or have others look to you for opportunities and nourishment, for you may miss your chance of being creative and independent." Be an observer of situations as Mars approaches the conjunction with Pluto, and see if this symbol is relevant to you. Don't forget the Vernal Equinox, the astrological New Year, March 20th, at 7:31 a.m. CST. This is a key time for new beginnings and affirming what you want for the year ahead. And every once in awhile, look up at the sky! *********************
