NOVEMBER 3, 2002 - URANUS DIRECT  - 24 AQUARIUS

A Uranus station always means unexpected changes of plan (a week on either side of the stationary  date).  It's important to note that unexpected changes can be for better or for worse, and sometimes it's hard to see the whole picture till some time has passed.  In the last week or so, a number of clients and friends have called to tell me about getting laid off from jobs.  Even if rumors had been circulating for months  at work, the change, although not entirely unexpected, was certainly bewildering and unsettling.

People with a planetary emphasis in fixed signs (Aquarius, Taurus, Leo &
Scorpio) often need the energy of Uranus to break them out of old patterns -- it's just not fun.  With the sudden shifts in energy with Uranus, one woman lost a job and was offered several much better ones in the course of a few days.

The key is flexibility of mind, and the ability to let go of the past. Uranus can bring exciting new ideas and greater freedom.

If you have some economic set-backs under this aspect, try this
affirmation:

"I gratefully accept Life's gifts of wealth and prosperity,
which flow into my life in ways that are balanced and harmonious."

NOVEMBER 4, 2002 - NEW MOON- 12 SCORPIO 15 - 2:34 PM CST

The New Moon in Scorpio is squared to both Jupiter and Neptune.  These symbols can be translated as deep passion about the spiritual and religious, making it an excellent time for meditation and reading philosophical books.  But because of the square, this can indicate a conflict between religious tradition and one's own spiritual insights. Scorpio is a fixed sign, excellent for persistence and consistency but lacking flexibility.  Try not to polarize your thoughts and ideas into either/or.  All religions have an inner mystical teaching. Look for the core spiritual teachings of your own religious tradition to inspire you, yet try to see the transcendent unity in all.

More down-to-earth, Scorpio can be sexual energy, but just because you feel an overwhelming biological imperative does not mean the person you're attracted to is your soul-mate (nor does it mean you should skip your usual birth control or std protection).  If you can maintain a steady connection with your logical mind, the Scorpio energy could bring you in touch with some intriguing new people.

NOVEMBER 19, 2002 - LUNAR ECLIPSE - 27 TAURUS - 7:33 PM CST

Emotions come to the surface at a lunar eclipse.  The square to Uranus from the Sun and Moon can bring those unexpected changes described for November 3 (above).  Because Taurus is an earth sign, those changes have the stressful feeling of an earth quake or a lightning strike to the top of a mountain.  You'll hear rumbling or thunder first.  That's your cue to take a deep breath (or two) and back away from situations or conversations that seem like they're going from an intense discussion to a declaration of war.

NOVEMBER 21, 2002 - VENUS DIRECT - 0 SCORPIO - 1:12 AM CST

It's best to wait till Venus is direct for shopping, especially cosmetics and clothing.  Hopefully, the US economy as it relates to the holiday shopping season will start surging after Venus goes direct.

BEGINNER'S CORNER:  The Flat Chart

If you want to find out how seriously astrologers today look at birth data check out the Rodden Ratings at: http://astrodatabank.com/RoddenRatings.htm

But what do you do if you don't have a birth time?  Many people don't have access to birth information beyond the birth day and year.  Can you still do astrology?

A helpful way to look at a non-birthtime horoscope is the flat chart. This is a wheel with just the planets in signs -- no houses or rising sign.  To create the flat chart in a horoscope program like Solar Fire, use noon (the middle of the day) for the birth time and choose "0 degrees Aries" as your house system (and remember -- there's no ascendant, midheaven, or part of fortune to be calculated).

To simply do it on chart paper, just write the signs around the circle putting 0 degrees of Aries on what would normally be the 1st house cusp. Then look in an ephemeris (a book of planetary positions) for the year and birth date and just write the planets with the degree & sign -- forget about the exact minutes -- drawing them into their proper sign location on the wheel.

All the positions, except for the fast-moving Moon, will be accurate within about a degree.  What can a flat chart tell you?  Plenty!  Just the planets in the signs combined with aspects can give you tremendous insight into a person's personality and the ways they operate in life.

I look at flat charts all the time, both for clients and for fun.  In particular, if I'm about to read a biography or autobiography of a well-known person, I'll get their birthdate (birth times are so rarely
given) and draw up a flat chart, keeping it by me as I read, correlating the astrological information with the biographical.  If Larry King is interviewing someone interesting on CNN, I'll sometimes run and get the data during a commercial to see if what the person is saying fits their chart (of course it does!)  (One caution with actors -- both men and women -- they sometimes lie about their birth year.)  At election time like November, it's always interesting (and wise) to check out the politicians -- their bio data is usually on their website.

Collect precise birthdata as often as possible, but have fun learning about celebrities or friends with the flat chart.
