2/1/01 - Thursday
Late
at night, I go surfing and find this
article on weblogs and a new science fiction ezine, Strange
Horizons. I don't think surfing's the right word. It's
more like diving. Diving through a link into a new site, swimming
through it, observing--browsing--learning--skimming--investigating,
then
finding another link to exit. There's that Twilight Zone quality,
especially browsing weblogs and journals, of astral traveling from one
person's home to another, peeking in on them, then gone. And that
feeling of being open to serendipity, that a treasure might be found or
something amazing or synchronous could happen at any moment.
1/31/01 - Wednesday
Found a new free reading -- a coffee reading at Cafe Nation.
1/30/01 - Tuesday
The latest Mountain Astrologer has some great articles in it. I was reading it at lunch and break-time today. I particularly liked "Tooth Fairy Tales" by Jan Severson which presented natal astrological symbolism compared with childhood tooth fairy rituals. Uranus, Alienation and the Martial Arts by Lynn Finger was another good one, looking not only at Mars and Pluto in the charts of martial artists but also the placement and aspects to Uranus. The interview with Bernadette Brady about the history of fixed stars was amazing especially the part about the change in astronomy/astrology from the pole of the ecliptic to the pole of the equator in the middle ages and the impact that had on the degrees of the fixed stars. I'm so glad people like Bernadette Brady, Lee Lehman and the scholars at Project Hindsight and ARHAT are working on uncovering astrology's history.
1/28/01 - Sunday
Watched the Superbowl. Rich made a big pot of chili from the Wendy's recipe. Chips, salsa, hot wings -- all the guys were groaning about how they'd have to go work-out tomorrow if they could digest it all soon enough. I stuck around to keep them company and watch the commercials. Our faves were the e-trade monkey and the spin-off spoofs of the Bud "wassup" commercials. Of course, no commercial's gonna make us drink beer. We dug out a few old cans from a party ten years ago, and Rich put some in the chili, but their were no takers for the other ones. I guess they'll go back down to the utility room next to the dozen cans of just-in-case Y2K tuna.
1/26/01 - Friday
Asia
Market was an incredibly cool store. Every sort of noodle: udon,
soba, rice and ramen. Huge tins of sesame oil. Multi-varieties
of hot sauce. Package mixes to make kim-chee from your own cabbage.
Frozen prepared dumplings to steam. Ginger tea, ginseng tea, oolong
tea. And, the reason for my journey, fortune cookies -- individually
wrapped in cellophane in a huge open carton, sold by the pound.
I went
there yesterday to get fortune cookies for the Writers Support Group last
night. Not just to celebrate Chinese New Year -- each person's fortune
was their writing prompt.
What
fun! What a variety of stories! I got the best fortune, too:
"You will enjoy good health. You will be surrounded by luxury."
I am surrounded by luxury -- Asian markets, Indian restaurants, abundant
bookstores and libraries, good friends, loving family. I pray for
the good health to enjoy it all.
