4/26/01 - Thursday I found my radio station. For those of you in the Chicago area, check out 97.1 FM-WDRV - "The Drive." It's sixties and early seventies music and I just couldn't turn it off. Very ecletic mix - The Stones "You Can't Always get What you Want" to The Beach Boys "Wouldn't it be Nice?" to "Lake Shore Drive" - who was that? Aliota, Haynes & Jeremiah, maybe? Bob Stroud, one of my favorite classic Chicago area classic rock DJs has an afternoon slot. No webpage for them yet -- it's a new station (personally I think a webpage should be a priority. WTMX, another Bonneville International Chicago station has a site that's complementary to their programming). 4/23/01 - Monday My favorite
psychic joke:
Had lunch today with some of my 'psychic friends network.' That's what I call my friends who are also fellow intuitive readers. Shelley (runes), Genie (Tarot), Davida (Tarot and Palmistry), Barbara (Tarot and Palmistry), and me (Astrology and Tarot) met at Sally's Restaurant on the occasion of Davida's visit to Chicago. Davida used to live here and was one of the people who got me involved in doing readings at large corporate events. Now she is a psychic in L.A. doing readings at parties for celebrities, movie producers and Hollywood new-agers. While my primary focus is individual consultations, Barbara is a party person. She does Bar Mitzvahs, wedding showers, and many of Chicago's themed street fairs, as well as large corporate extravaganzas. Shelley, I've known since sixth grade, and I met Genie originally through the local chapter of NCGR, an astrological organization. At one time or another we've all done Zazz Bash, an annual Chicago Sun Times charity event, also billed as 'the world's largest singles party.' Davida has organized psychics as part of the entertainment/fundraising for this event for at least ten years. I used to participate when I had more energy and before traffic increased the drive into the city to two hours on a Friday night. At the Zazz Bash, we made money for charity and some for ourselves. For me, the best part was just hanging out with the huge group of Chicago psychics who volunteered for the event. I got to meet some wonderful and talented people. Every once in awhile things would get slow and we'd read for each other. We encouraged each others' careers and networked leads for other events. On those evenings, the singles -- mostly women -- would line up all night to have a five minute "mini-reading." To be able to do quality consultations that quickly is a rare skill, one at which I (and my friends) excel. If we're busy, time rushes by. On those full-scheduled nights at the Bash, I've read ten or eleven people per hour for four to six hours: Focusing in the loose letting go way of readings despite the roar of the crowd talking and the DJ's rock dance mix in the background; Creating a link; Tuning into the cards; Breaking the link. By the end of the evening we're in the zone, very open psychically, more wired than tired. Latecomers beg for their turn at a reading and the more co-dependent among us accommodate them, while others pack up their cards and crystals. I don't feel the disruption in my aura till the following day when I find myself weak with weariness. There's a weird buzzing presence of the sadness of those souls whose questions needed more than a five-minute fix. My prayer is always "to be truly helpful" and I'm not convinced a five minute reading falls into that category despite the positive feedback from the querents. On the Sunday after the Bash, we meet for brunch at Omega (the best coffee shop in the Chicago area) where we get a long table and hang out for hours. Today at Sally's was more intimate with just the five of us. We spent three hours talking and laughing. From time to time we'd get loud and the little white-haired ladies who were the only other mid-afternoon patrons would turn and stare. One sad note to our talk was that Jeff Zaslov, Zazz Bash founder, has been let go from the Sun Times staff (writers sure seem to be on the front lines of the economic crisis). Perhaps the Bash will go on, perhaps not. But my psychic friends and I will always have our gatherings so we can say to each other, "You're fine, how am I?" ;-) 4/20/01 - New Astrology Update Newsletter posted today. 4/12/01 - Thursday The fifteen minute, free-writing assignment for tonight at the B&N Writers Support Group was: Write ten things you would want someone you just met to know about you -- this can be actual or fictional. As usual, everyone in the group took it in a different direction. Susan used the letters in her name, of which there conveniently were ten, as the beginning of each line. Mike wrote the opening pages of a short story or novel as his character introduced himself. John got inspired and listed dozens of positive qualities he'd like people to know. This is a fun and creative group. I always feel psyched about writing when we're finished. 4/11/01 - Wednesday A couple times a month I send an email newsletter to the members of the Writers Support Group which meets at the Schaumburg, IL Barnes & Noble Bookstore. It reminds folks about the meeting (always the second and fourth Thursdays). And I pass along any cool writing sites I've come across. Here's the ones from this week's newsletter: The Writers Exchange at About.com has hundreds of articles and links on all aspects of writing. Another
